Mountain Activities

Snow shoe excursions

Explore the breathtaking mountain scenery on a snow shoe excursion. This is your chance to enjoy the mountain environment, discover the history of the valley and see the local wildlife. Snowshoes 'rackets' attach to your outdoor footwear and help you to walk easily on snow. The Meribel Tourist office can provide you with a circuit of walks you can enjoy independently or you can join a guided tour.

The Ecole de Ski Francais run ½ day and full day guided trips.

Cross Country skiing

There are some magnificent cross country trails in the Meribel valley, all graded from complete beginner to expert. It is a fantastic way to spend the morning or afternoon. At the top of the Meribel valley in Mottaret, you have a great introductory route around the Lac du Tueda. This is part of the Vanoise National park, and is a protected area for the wildlife and its natural beauty. There is a little Alpine hut where you can stop off for a hot chocolate and enjoy the views.

From the Meribel Altiport there is something for all levels, and again it is a very picturesque setting and the route takes you through the alpine forests. Cross country skiing is one of the best forms of aerobic exercise you can do whilst enjoying fantastic scenery. The equipment is lightweight and can be hired from all the local sports shops. If you are new to cross country skiing, an hour with a personal instructor is all you will need to get you going!

Local walks

You can simply go out and enjoy some lovely mountain walks and breathe in the fresh alpine air. The Meribel Tourist Office provides a very good free map, with 25km of specially groomed walking trails accessible from our Meribel ski chalets, exploring the Meribel and Courchevel valley. A walkers liftpass will give you unlimited access to the 3 valleys gondolas & cable car.

Plane Flights

Get a birdseye view of the Meribel skiing. Plane flights are available from Meribel Altiport. They will take you for a flight around the Meribel Valley or The Three Valleys or for the ultimate flight around Mont Blanc and back. We can highly recommend it. For reservations call Méribel'Air on +33 (0) 4 79 08 61 33.

Parapenting

Is offered by qualified instructors from the top of Saulire to give you a unique experience of flying over the Meribel Valley. Videos & photos can also be taken.

Dog sleding

The dog Sledging activity is an energetic, sometimes hard work experience that can be incredibly rewarding. It will take you through the woods between Meribel village and La Plantin. You are in charge of your own sled with three sometimes four dogs to pull it and you, so you need to be in good shape to go up and down hills and occasionally under treas. It is certainly something different to try.

Snowmobiles - moto neige

Once the ski runs have closed for the day, try your hand at driving these 500cc two seater motorbikes built specially for the snow. With the rear wheel replaced with a caterpillar track for momentum and the front wheel swapped for a pair of skis for steering - snowmobiles are incredibly quick and able machines whether snow, ice or even water is put in front of them.

Whether you are a beginner or you've done it several times before after some expert instruction and tuition you will soon be out on an open country trail enjoying the buzz and adrenalin rush of being in control of a snow scooter and speeding up and down the ski runs in the quiet of a late moon lit evening whilst closely observed by the highly experienced instructors.
