Who would have thought that that those white tipped mountain peaks could provide such a good workout! Well they do, and more than your average exercise routine in a lot of cases. Skiing or snowboarding for 6 hours can burn between 2000 and 3000 calories, that’s pretty amazing when you are having the time of your life, quaffing Baileys after dark and eating to your hearts content.

However those calories need to come from somewhere, so here is an approximate idea of how many hours it takes to burn off some of the delicious foods you will be more than likely sampling. However you are on holiday and not a boot camp so whatever you eat should be thoroughly enjoyed, who really cares about those few extra calories when the sun is shining and the white powder is glistening.

  • Cheesy Fondue – this packs a whopping 800 calories (ish) per serving, and that of course depends on how much you are going to eat. In ski terms that’s a good couple of hours on the slopes.
  • Goulash – at around 500 calories a bowl it shouldn’t take more than an hour to burn off. It’s a pretty healthy meal, packed with delicious spices and high in protein, it will certainly keep you going, especially with hunks of bread.
  • Crepes – too delicious for words, especially with Nutella and banana. They aren’t tremendously filling though and hit home at approximately 500-600 calories per one, which will take a good hour and a half to burn off.
  • Hot chocolate – This is always going to be a must at the end of a hard day on the slopes, add some marshmallows and you will consume around 300 calories, apart from anything it’s worth it and nothing that a 50 minute ski won’t get rid of.
