It’s all well and good hitting the slopes in style, but what happens when you are not quite ready for all of that exercise? You’ll probably need another holiday to get over it! But fear not, here we discuss exactly how you can blow away those cobwebs before you even strap on a single ski…

Warm ups

With any sort of exercise, a decent warm up is essential before you start to get serious. We’re not talking about anything too strenuous here, just some slow cardio on a stationary bike or running machine for 5 minutes or so. You can also do something simliar when you actually arrive at your Meribel chalet, and your legs will certainly thank you.

Leg exercise

Your legs are going to need some extra work especially if you stray away from the nursery slopes. Squats are just right for building up your leg strength, and these can be done anywhere you like. Just remember to ensure your knees never go beyond your toes!

Balancing

Maintaining your balance is key to enjoying your skiing, so get some practice in before you leave. Use a BOSU ball for balance training, and pretty soon you will be ready for some icy action.

Core muscles

Once your balancing is sorted, you should apply some attention to your core strength as well. Pilates is the best for this, and there are usually plenty of local classes to choose from.
