A winter holiday to Meribel doesn’t have to just be about skiing on the slopes, and the après ski in the evening. There are some fantastic walking routes around Meribel that offer some incredible scenic views.

When you’re busy speeding down the slopes on your skis or snowboard you can be forgiven for not noticing that all around you are some accessible woodland walks. It is one of the most beautiful places on the planet, and you can wander along the routes, with pinecones and fir spine droppings all around you. Wonder in amazement at the footprints of the wild animals and cherish these moments of sheer serenity and beauty.

The Piste des Animaux (Animal Trail) follows this process but with a stunning ending that isn’t hidden away in the woodland. The track takes you higher and higher, and offering you a view like not other, across the valley below. You can stop to take some photos and have a bite to eat on one of the wooden benches that can be found along the route.

For an easer stroll you can walk along the routes that run parallel to the biathlon tracks, you can do these in about half-hour, but there are routes that you can enjoy for hours on end, taking a break from the skiing but still enjoying the winter wonderland around you.
