Top 4 reasons to spend Christmas in the Alps

Sparkling lights, a dusting of fresh snow, warm crackling log fires and toasty knitted socks. Doesn’t it sound like a picture-perfect Christmas?

Of course the Alps is always picturesque but there’s something special about going away with your loved ones for the festive period and experiencing a real white Christmas.

Listed below are our top reasons for coming out and joining us this Christmas:

1. It’s Beautiful

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, Christmas in Meribel is truly one of the most beautiful sights to behold. Although you may consider us a little biased; Meribel is one of the most charming chocolate-box resorts in the French Alps. Specifically built as one of the first ‘chalet’ resorts, builders were asked to stick to using natural stone and wood, giving it a gorgeous Alpine feel.

Meribel is also low enough to benefit from being within the tree line unlike resorts such as Tignes or Val Thorens which are too high to have trees. Imagine bringing your children to Meribel where they can be surrounded by real ‘Christmas’ trees covered in snow?

2. The Ski Area

Meribel benefits from being smack bang in the middle of the biggest ski area in Europe – the 3 Valleys. With over 600km of pistes and a snow sure guarantee you can’t go wrong choosing Meribel for your Christmas holiday. Easy access to both Courchevel and Val Thorens gives you the possibility of new skiing every day and with Courchevel’s North-facing slopes you are sure to have lots of snow.

Meribel is also officially a family friendly resort with plenty of large beginner areas so there is something for every ability here.

3. A French Christmas is Far Less Commercial Than Back Home

For those of us who get fed up with Christmas decorations being put up and adverts starting in September, getting away with your friends and family can have real appeal.

Meribel is a charming resort at its worst but at its best it becomes truly magical. The giant Christmas tree in the centre is the focal point of the celebrations with carol-singing and dancing going on around it. Father Christmas also stops by for the children (and adults!) to watch the procession as he makes his way up the mountain. Vin Chaud aplenty is on hand as well as hot chocolate for the youngsters.

4.You Get More Quality Time With Your Family

Christmas at home can sometimes become a very stressful time. Ordering your Turkey in October and planning for all your family’s requirements can sometimes mean that by the time Christmas comes around you are too exhausted to spend time with your loved ones. Staying in Meribel with Ski Blanc means you are looked after all week by a lovely chalet couple who can cook you a full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. Start your day off with a grand breakfast and present opening, ski all day with your family and then finish off with a splendid three course Christmas dinner.
