What can you expect from Meribel for your New Years Eve Celebrations? We go through all the details for you.

When should we book our ski chalet holiday for New Year in Meribel?

It may seem a long way off, but New Year comes around pretty quickly. How about trying something different this year and join us in Meribel to welcome 2019. New Year is always a very popular week in Meribel especially for catered ski chalets, so be sure to book your place early. Flights only go up in price for this popular week, so now is the time to book. I checked easyjet.com this morning and you could still fly out Saturday 29 Dec, return Saturday 5 Jan from Gatwick to Geneva for less than £200 arriving and departing at reasonable times.

How does the ski resort of Meribel celebrate New Year’s Eve?

Meribel is the perfect resort to celebrate New Year. Traditional stone/wood built ski chalets with the dramatic alpine backdrop provide the ultimate setting for a terrific party. There is something to suit every holiday maker, early evening celebrations are popular with family groups who want to be first down the freshly pisted slopes on the first of January 2019. You can expect a torch lit descent, when all the ski instructors of the valley gather together high up the mountain just after sunset then ski down in formation carrying flaming torches. The effect is a magical snake of twinkling lights coming down the groomed slopes of Meribel. You can always expect a fabulous fireworks display to follow and plenty of hot chocolate and mulled wine to keep both you and the kids’ toasty warm. For the more ambitious party goers the party will go on right through until the morning. DJ’s fly out to entertain a huge crowd in Meribel’s Olympic Centre ice rink, there will be live bands in the resort bars and the well-loved Meribel nightclub O’Sullivans will be packed out until sunrise, so expect good vibes and good times.

Will we need to buy tickets in advance for the ski resort celebrations?

The Meribel New Year celebrations are free to enter so you can just arrive whenever you want to and still be sure you will see the show. Tickets are usually available a couple of days in advance for some of the busier resort bars, so you can guarantee entry to see your favourite band or DJ. You can reserve tickets in advance for the larger events online. Entry to O’Sullivans is paid on the door, or you can purchase VIP tickets to skip the queue and have reserved seating in their raised booth area.

Can we expect good snow conditions for New Year week in Meribel?

If you want a snow-sure resort for New Year then Meribel and the 3 valleys area is the place to choose. What makes a resort snow-sure? It’s a combination of High Altitude Skiing and superior resources for snowmaking, piste preparation and lift infill-structure. Meribel has benefitted from huge investment in all of these areas over recent years. We have been here for the last 20 years and even during the lean snowfall years, Meribel had over 70% of the entire ski area open for New Year. The lower slopes of Meribel have excellent snow making and from the mid station upwards we’ve always had proper snow. New techniques for preserving snow and moving it around ensure you will have the full 3 Valleys skiing experience even if snowfalls are lighter than hoped for. Last year, we had the opposite problem with far too much snow and again, we have to rely on the top class team that maintain the Meribel ski area to keep the resort open and safe. Meribel’s continuous investment in new high speed lifts is noticeable every season. It’s actually quicker to get to the top of Saulire from Meribel than it is from the ever swanky Courchevel 1850 in the neighbouring valley. Even on a busy week like New Year, you will not expect to be spending your time stuck in a queue.
